Authentic Bosnian Rug Weaving Workshop in Petrovac

Bosanski Petrovac, aside from a series of landmarks, natural beauties, and famous people born there, (Mersad Berber and Jovan Bijelić – painters; Skender Kulenović and Ahmet Hromadžić – writers), is well known for the production of traditional Petrovac rugs. Women have been weaving rugs on looms for household needs since medieval times. The beautiful combination of colors and patterns, naturally dyed wool, has become an art that leaves a part of imagination and ornamentation in every rug, a part deeply woven into the weaver’s consciousness. The craft of weaving has been passed down from mothers to daughters, from generation to generation. Petrovac rugs are woven on a horizontal loom, with warp and weft made of wool in warm colors like ochre, white, black, green, and cherry red.
